Summary

Summary:

The more you play, the more Frequent Player Points (FPP's) you'll earn. FPP's can be exchanged for cash, tournament buy-ins etc. On top of that, there are VIP freerolls, tournament leaderboards and promotional weeks that contribute to your rakeback at PokerStars.

The more FPP's you earn, the higher your VIP status will be, which in turn creates a multiplier over your FPP's (earning you more rakeback)

How does it work?

How does it work:

By playing at real money games and tournaments at PokerStars, you'll earn FPP's. How many depends on both limit and game type. For tournaments it's 5 FPP's for every $1 in entry fees. The number of base FPP's (called VPP's) that you make in a month, will determine your VIP status. Just to be sure: Base FPP's are simply FPP's that you make without the use of any multiplier whatsoever.

Monthly VIP Levels
BronzeStar No VPP necessary
SilverStar 1200 VPP p/m 50% bonus multiplier on your FPP's (so 1.5 FPP's per 1 VPP)
GoldStar  3000 VPP p/m 100% bonus multiplier on your FPP's (so 2 FPP's per 1 VPP)
PlatinumStar  7500 VPP p/m 150% bonus multiplier on your FPP's (so 2.5 FPP's per 1 VPP)
Yearly VIP Levels
Supernova 100.000 VPP per year 250% bonus multiplier on your FPP (so 3.5 FPP per 1 VPP)
Supernova Elite 1.000.000 VPP per year 400% bonus multiplier on your FPP's (so 5 FPP's per 1 VPP)

VPP's in itself have no value, except to determine what's your VIP level. It's the FPP's that you can exchange for money, tickets etc. You can exchange FPP's in the VIP store, for -among other things- electronics (plasma screens etc) tournament tickets and cash. On average, the value of 1 FPP is 15 dollarcent. But when you also play the weekly VIP freerolls, the value increases to 21 dollarcent.

For players who reach GoldStar or higher, the rakeback matches the rakeback percentages that are offered by typical rakeback sites. If you're a Supernova, PokerStars is more interesting, because a number of extra bonuses  can get your rakeback percentage well over 50%. And if you're Supernova Elite, well.......you must be a pokergod already. :)
